New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani called out Whoopi Goldberg for mispronouncing his name during a live appearance on *The View*.

Near the end of the popular liberal politician's second recent appearance on the long-running talk show, the Oscar-winning *Ghost* actress made her final introduction for Mamdani at the top of the third and final portion of the multi-part interview.

"We're back with the New York City mayor, Zor-han Mamdani," the 70-year-old said, welcoming the audience back from a commercial break.

Mamdani, 34, smiled as he quipped, "One day, we're gonna get it."

The cohosts laughed as Goldberg turned toward Mamdani and said, "Listen, Z, I'm trying," while others suggested that the EGOT winner refer to him simply as "Mayor Z" going forward.

Goldberg repeated the name, telling him, "Mayor Z, that's what I'm going to call you," while panelist Joy Behar, 83, observed, "it's the H that throws you off."**

"It's also, I'm dyslexic, so it doesn't look like what I'm seeing," Goldberg said, pointing toward the prompter text. "I'm trying to get it right, and I'm just calling him Mayor Z."

The interview continued as normal, with Mamdani addressing a wealth of issues related to both national and local politics.

Earlier in the discussion, Behar pressed Mamdani on his Nov. 21 meeting with Donald Trump, which ended with the president praising Mamdani after previously (and repeatedly) criticizing him during the 2025 New York City mayoral race.

"We all know you are totally filled with charm. The one who's really taken with you is Trump. What's interesting is you called him a fascist to his face," Behar said, with Mamdani confirming that he did in the moment.

Behar callled the move "a dream I've always had," before pointing out that Trump "seemed to be madly in love" with Mamdani following the meeting — enough so that they exchanged texts afterward.

"Can I see the texts?" Behar said, while Mamdani declined because, "I don't have my phone with me," he said.

Later, Mamdani clarified his stance on working with Trump for the betterment of New York City during his time in office.

"My intention is about being honest and direct with the president. There are many disagreements the two of us have. There's no shortage of them. One thing we do have in common is that we both love New York City," Mamdani — the son of film director Mira Nair — told the cohosts. "For the entire meeting, I made the case about this city and what it can look like for this city if it's a place New Yorkers can afford, or if it's a place they're pushed out of. Every single policy the federal administration puts forward, it has impacts on this city."

*The View* airs weekdays on ABC. Watch a portion of Mamdani's appearance on the talk show in the video above.
