The Puerto Rican singer and rapper Young Miko burst on the scene in 2022 with the release of her EP Trap Kitty, imbuing Latin Trap beats with a unique blend of hyperfemme, queer, and playful lyrics. Her music quickly drew the attention of that other Puerto Rican superstar, Bad Bunny, who soon after its release, brought her out as a guest during his 2022 shows in San Juan, Puerto Rico following the release of his global hit, Un Verano Sin Ti; and later featured her on the song “Fina” on his follow-up album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

Since then, the 28-year old star born María Victoria Ramírez de Arellano Cardona, has released two full-length albums, 2024’s Att and last year’s Do Not Disturb, which she celebrated by going on tour with Billie Eilish. Just last month, she was announced as the new face of GAP, starring in their new ad campaign, which also featured her single “Wassup.” Her life is in constant forward motion with no signs of stopping anytime soon.

A few days after the Super Bowl—yes, that was her hanging out and dancing in Bad Bunny’s casita during the historic halftime show—she hopped on a call with Bazaar to discuss her current state of mind as seen in her playlist for our NOW Issue. Tyla’s “Truth or Dare” kicks off the playlist. “It’s such a cool song because she is bring so vulnerable, but she’s doing it in a really fun way so you almost don’t realize that she’s actually challenging him to be totally honest with her—and that can be so uncomfortable,” she explained. “But I also think it’s super powerful that she is so protective of her privacy—without being obvious about it.”

“Kehlani’s ‘Folded’ was also one of my most listened-to songs last year,” Miko added. “The way she’s showing that it’s powerful to be gentle with one’s self, that being delicate with someone doesn’t mean that you are weak. It’s hard sometimes to set limits on yourself and your world in order to protect your own emotions.”

Those same vibes are what she loves Addison Rae’s “Fame is a Gun.” “She’s showing herself to the world in such a raw way, while also being so honest about how fame can empower you but it can also hurt you.” She continued, “I also think it’s super cool how she is navigating her public identity and her self-expression in real time in such a unique way.”

“They’re all songs that are super fun and unique, but they’re also about vulnerability, about letting yourself have fun without acquiescing to outside opinions and other people,” she said. “And now, more than ever I’m really tied to this idea of choosing oneself as an act of rebellion.”
