Hamnet director Chloé Zhao shared a video of Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley and the movie's cast and crew holding a dance party on their final day of filming

The entire production danced it out to Rihanna's 2011 hit "We Found Love," which Zhao explained is "how my cast and crew release" emotions on set

Hamnet won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Drama) this month, and Buckley won a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for her performance in the movie

Hamnet may be one of the saddest movies of the last year, but Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley and their director Chloé Zhao made a point of having fun on set.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Zhao, 43, shared a video to Instagram of her Irish stars Mescal, 29, and Buckley, 36, emerging with a number of actors from the Golden Globe Award-winning movie for a joyful celebration that took place during the final day of filming the movie.

The clip opens with Mescal and Buckley carrying their young costar Jacobi Jupe onto a stage with them as Rihanna's 2011 hit "We Found Love" blares, and a crowd of extras and background performers assembled at the movie's set for the Globe Theatre cheer on. Joe Alwyn, Noah Jupe, and other actors from the production soon join them on stage, with the entire cast and crew — including filmmaker Zhao, in the crowd — joining in for the anachronistic dance-filled moment, still in costume for the 16th-century set film.

"After traveling with Hamnet for months, meeting so many of you in person and watching online audience reactions from around the world, our hearts are FULL. We made the film for you, so we thank you for keeping your hearts open and for feeling so deeply," Zhao, 43, wrote in a caption to her video. "Some of you have asked me what to do with all the emotions and how my cast and crew release them on set and the answer is: Dance Takes! ✨"

Zhao explained that she believes that "emotional is energy in motion" and that the movie utilized "dance takes" to "discharge" emotions while on set.

"We want to share moments from our final Dance Take with you, on our last day in the Globe Theatre. It was a release that turned everything we’d been holding into joy, into shared catharsis," she added in her caption. "If it moves you, join us! Dance with us. Share your version with us. However it looks, wherever you are. We can hold together, in community, what is too hard to hold on our own. This is why Shakespeare wrote his plays and why he brought people together in the Globe. We hope we made him proud! ☺️❤️"

Jessie Buckley and Joe Alwyn in Hamnet

The moment of simple, music-filled elation shared by Hamnet's cast stands out against the movie's emotional, grief-filled tone: Buckley and Mescal costar as Agnes Shakespeare and William Shakespeare in the movie, which tracks their relationship and the grief they experience when their son Hamnet dies at a young age.

Hamnet is in theaters now: Buckley has won awards for her performance as Agnes in the movie at this year's Critics' Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards. She is also nominated for her role in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the upcoming Actor Awards on March 1.
