Savannah Guthrie shared that her kids, Vale and Charley, are “so over” her “silent routine” after undergoing vocal surgery

The Today show star previously announced she would be taking some time away from the show due to nodules on her vocal cords and a polyp that required removal

More recently, Guthrie was able to ditch the whiteboards and reveal her post-vocal surgery voice on the morning talk show

Savannah Guthrie’s kids, Vale and Charley, aren’t very big fans of vocal rest.

After the morning talk show host announced that she would be taking some time away from the Today show on Dec. 19 due to nodules on her vocal cords and a polyp that required removal, she has since shared how her kids were feeling about her two weeks of silence while recovering from vocal surgery.

Sharing a photo of a whiteboard with a doodle of a woman frowning underneath a speech bubble that said, “I can’t talk!” to her Instagram Stories, Guthrie wrote, “Kids are so over the silent routine (And so am I).”

She also shared another snap of her son Charley, 8, laughing while holding up the whiteboard and scribbling over the doodle.

Luckily, Guthrie ditched the whiteboard just a few hours later and debuted her new post-vocal surgery voice during a Jan. 20 video appearance on the Today show.

After beginning the Morning Boost segment by writing on the white board, Guthrie, 54, teased, “You know what, I think it’d be easier for me to just talk!”

“I am still on vocal rest, but I’m allowed to talk for five to 10 minutes every hour,” she continued as her co-workers cheered with excitement. “This is my new voice or my old voice, but my new voice.”

While Al Roker told Guthrie that she “sounds the same,” Craig Melvin noted that she sounds “markedly better.” And now that she’s gotten her voice back, Guthrie teased that she would be returning to the show on Monday, Jan. 26.

“I think the good news is that it worked!” she said. “And Sheinelle [Jones] knows, she went through this and had this surgery, it’s kind of a slow recovery. You’re allowed to talk and if you talk too much — which is a real risk for me — you start to feel it, so you just have to take it easy.”

As for how her kids feel now that their mom can finally speak again? It seems Guthrie’s new voice may take some getting used to because, in a video shared to her Instagram Stories on Jan. 20, Charley joked that his mom sounded like a “good-sounding duck,” noting that her new voice is “not even close” to what it used to be.
