Patrick Renna and Dugout Dads costar Danielle Fishel recently revealed that Marty York is the Sandlot cast member fans would be least likely to recognize today because of his dramatic transformation
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, they reflected on how much York has changed since playing “Yeah-Yeah” in the 1993 film
The pair also discussed Dugout Dads and why the new series reunites the iconic cast without continuing The Sandlot story
Few family movies have held onto their popularity quite like The Sandlot, the 1993 coming-of-age baseball classic that introduced audiences to a memorable group of neighborhood kids and their unforgettable summer adventures.
More than three decades later, the cast is still reminiscing about the film. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Patrick Renna, 37, and Dugout Dads costar Danielle Fishel, 45, revealed which Sandlot cast member fans would be the most surprised to see today.

According to Renna and Fishel, York — who played the energetic shortstop Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan — has undergone the biggest transformation since the movie was released over three decades ago. “He was the scrawniest little guy,” Renna told the outlet. “And now he’s just like 200 lbs. of pure muscle — as tall this way as that way.”
Fishel also weighed in, describing York as a “behemoth.” And while Renna agreed that his former costar is almost unrecognizable now, he made sure to emphasize that it was “in a good way.”

The conversation also gave the pair a chance to discuss Dugout Dads, the upcoming comedy series that reunites many familiar faces from The Sandlot. Alongside Renna and Fishel, the cast includes York, Tom Guiry, Chauncey Leopardi, Brandon Quintin Adams, Victor DiMattia, Shane Obedzinski, Grant Gelt and Will Horneff.
Still, even with so many original cast members returning, Renna has made it clear the project is not meant to revisit or continue the story of the 1993 film. “The only thing that we brought back is the actual actors,” Renna said. “There’s no Sandlot IP. We’re not trying to compete against it because I just didn’t want to do that. You know, you screw that up, then everybody hates you for life, so I didn’t want to go there.”
Instead, the actors are playing brand new characters, though Renna admitted he encouraged the writers to borrow a few traits from the cast members themselves. “When the writers wrote each character, I told them a little bit about each of the guys’ actual personalities,” Renna told Entertainment Weekly. “So I would say it’s a heightened version of themselves if anything.”
Dugout Dads is set to premiere on YouTube on Aug. 26, with new episodes arriving weekly.
