A royal expert has revealed that there was only one person who married into the modern Royal Family who possessed true “star power”. Wondering who it is? It is neither Kate Middleton nor Meghan Markle. According to the author, that unique title belongs completely to the late Princess Diana.
Royal Biographer Talks About the Royal Family
While speaking to People, royal biographer Simon Vigar explained that Princess Diana carried a strong sense of purpose right from the beginning.
From the four women who married into the family, Diana, Queen Camilla, Princess Kate, and Meghan Markle, the late princess was the only true aristocrat. She grew up on the royal Sandringham estate, knew the royals personally, and her older sister even dated King Charles first.
Simon Vigar called Diana the “ultimate modernizer of the monarchy”. He said that even her everyday actions, like shopping at a music store on Kensington High Street, broke tradition. His book The Four Wives of Windsor: Rivalries, Influence, and the Real Power Behind the Crown, which releases on July 30, emphasizes that Diana made the monarchy feel warmer, more approachable, and human, per Marie Claire.
Biographer Says Diana ‘Outshone Royal Family’
Simon revealed that the mom of two had a unique star quality which the monarchy didn’t appreciate, even though she ultimately eclipsed them all.
“Subjectively, [Diana] brought star power,” Vigar shared, adding that the royals “didn’t really know what they had” and that she “outshone them in the end.”
While praising Diana, the biographer also praised both Meghan Markle and Princess Kate Middleton. He quipped that Meghan had immense public charisma and could have been a powerhouse within the institution.
“[Meghan] was obviously a massive asset,” Vigar explained. “She was brilliant with the crowd, with the people. She would have been a major player in the Royal Family, and it is a crying shame that she’s not.”

While talking about Princess Kate, the author highlighted her sharp business sense behind palace doors. “Catherine is no wallflower. She has her own ideas. Behind the scenes, she asks really good questions. The Royal Family doesn’t think of themselves as a brand, but they are, and a source told me she got that straight away.”
Despite the praise, Vigar believes that no one matched Diana’s aura.

Years after her tragic death in a car crash, Princess Diana’s global impact has remained unmatched. Both Kate and Meghan have continued to honor their mother-in-law with their humanitarian work and fashion choices. However, Meghan has been accused by critics of ‘copying’ her late mother-in-law. There are rumors that the Sussexes are working on developing a documentary about Diana ahead of her death anniversary.
