Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosicalled the deaths of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner "devastating" as the entertainment world and political community process the shocking tragedy that occurred Sunday in Los Angeles.

"It's hard to think of anyone more remarkable and excellent in every field and endeavor they pursued," Pelosi wrote in a statement posted to social media. "Rob was creative, funny, and beloved. And in all of their endeavors, Michele was his indispensable partner, intellectual resource, and a loving wife."

Authorities responded to a medical aid call at the couple's Brentwood home around 3:30 p.m. on December 14 and discovered both had been killed. Rob was 78 years old. Michele was 68. Multiple sources confirm to People that their son, Nick Reiner, is responsible for their deaths.

Rob Reiner's Impact on American Film and Culture

Born in the Bronx in 1947 to legendary comedian Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Lebost, Rob Reiner first became a household name playing Mike "Meathead" Stivic on Norman Lear's groundbreaking sitcomAll in the Family.

His directorial career produced some of cinema's most beloved films: This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992).
