Myles Garrett trade grades: Who won blockbuster Rams-Browns deal?

The Los Angeles Rams are finalizing the most aggressive move of the 2026 NFL offseason so far by trading for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

Once the deal is complete, Garrett (we're not joking) is headed to the Rams in exchange for defensive end Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and additional draft compensation, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Obviously, this is the most seismic NFL trade in years, as Garrett is arguably the NFL's best defensive player. He's now joining a Rams team that is painfully in Super Bowl mode. Anything short would be a disaster.

How does this trade stack up? Well, let's do some grading, shall we?

Rams grade

This is the most aggressive move of the Sean McVay-Les Snead tenure, even past the Matthew Stafford trade. Making this much of an investment in a defensive player is always eye-opening, but Garrett is on another level. He's a genuine game-changer who is joining probably now the best team in the NFC, even past the Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks. It's massive. If the Rams win a Super Bowl out of this? It's all an A+ because Garrett likely fueled it on his side of the ball. If the Rams don't? Trading for Garrett is still a worthy gamble. We love it, but obviously, losing an excellent player like Verse and a 2027 first at least is always tough to swallow if you don't win a title.

Browns grade

The Browns probably always envisioned getting much more for Garrett in a hypothetical trade. Perhaps the additional draft compensation will sweeten the bitterness of this move, but it probably had to be done for a Cleveland team nowhere near competition. Verse is an awesome consolation prize for losing Garrett; he's younger and about 75-percent the player Garrett is. Cleveland finally swallowing the medicine and trading Garrett may work wonders in rebuilding Cleveland into a playoff team... if the right moves are made with this draft compensation, that is. You would like to maybe see another first-round pick thrown in there, but the compensation package isn't bad.
