‘MasterChef’ Champs Dish on Their Gordon Ramsay-Officiated Wedding

It’s not every day one gets married off by Gordon Ramsay, but that’s exactly what happened during the July 29 episode of MasterChef: Global Gauntlet. The culinary icon served as officiant for Season 15 winners Jessica Bosworth and Jesse Rosenwald as part of a wedding challenge inside Castle Roba in Toronto.

Fans of the Fox competition reality series have followed the couple’s love story unfold, celebrating recent milestones. They became engaged after Rosenwald popped the question during a watch party for their big finale victory last year. Not long after, the show’s producers came to them with the proposition to have their nuptials captured for the show. Other members of Season 15 were also in attendance. .

The Top 12 that made up the Blue and Red teams were tasked with putting together a meal for MasterChef royalty and their guests. In the end, the Blue Team had the better duck, which led to Team Red’s Aghata Sunsi representing Spain being sent home.

Here Bosworth and Rosenwald open up about the experience. Plus, the newlyweds catch us up on what’s next in their future.

Where did this idea come from to have your wedding featured on the show?

Jesse Rosenwald:I would say maybe like two or three weeks after the show aired. The engagement aired on TV, on our local channels, and then obviously social media. I’d say two or three weeks later, one of the showrunners reached out to us. He’s like, “Hey, congratulations on the win. Congratulations on the engagement.” He’s like, “We have this idea about maybe hosting your guy’s wedding in a castle in Toronto.” And we were like, “Oh, really?” He’s like, “I have to run it up the ladder. You let me know if it’s okay, and if you guys say yes, I’ll start the process.” In true Hollywood fashion, we didn’t hear anything for a little bit, We’re like, “Bummer, it didn’t work out.” Then all of a sudden we got a text, and it was like, “It’s on with a bunch of fire emojis. “We were like, “Absolutely.” As soon as we got that, we started calling up our Season 15 family as they are now. And so I tell them,’ Hey, get ready, we’re doing it again.”

Were you planning to get married this quickly after the engagement?

Jessica Bosworth: No, the plan was not to do it so quickly, We were just kind of toying around with the idea of what we would want to do and how we would want it to be. Then we got approached with this, and then we were like, “Well, I guess we don’t have to think about that at all now since the plan’s now kind of in place and laying itself out for us.”

Jesse: Yeah, I think we were like, “Well, that was the quickest engagement run ever.” We went from fiancé and fiancée to husband and wife in four months, something like that.

Jessica: Well, we went from boyfriend and girlfriend, partners for nine years, to getting engaged to…Okay, let’s get married in a couple months.

Did you have any input on the decor or details like that?

Jessica: The production team was wonderful. They involved us quite a bit. They came up with multiple beautiful ideas and would collaborate with us for our input. There was a lot of back and forth, and it came together beautifully. It was so easy and so seamless to work with them.

Jesse: Yeah, they did a great job, and honestly, I defer to Jess for just about all that stuff. Even my clothing was picked out by Jess.

I mean, that’s normal.

Jesse: They asked what color schemes we’d like. And they came back with like three or four color palettes, I guess, or if that’s what you call them. We picked and chose from there. They were amazing to work with, and did a great job.

How was Gordon as the officiant?

Jesse: The MasterChef world knows us together as winners, so it was even extra special. Going from getting to know us over a few months to getting the trophy from Gordon and then getting married from Gordon was a full circle moment.

Jessica: It was a beautiful full circle moment. It was such a much softer, more gentler side of Gordon. Before he was chef, he was like this minister and almost, like, Papa Gordon. He really eased our nerves. Being on TV is nerve-wracking in itself, and then you add real-life vows into the situation, and it just intensifies tenfold. So he was really wonderful about calming our nerves and making us laugh and keeping the mood light.

Jesse:  Yeah, he even cracked a joke. He said, “I now pronounce you after far too long, husband and wife.”

What did you make of the challenge?

Jesse: First we got to meet the cast, which was really. We consider ourselves now with the MasterChef family. We talked to  past season’s contestants and now we were meeting this season’s contestants. We got a chance to give them some input, which was to cook your food, be confident, and stay true to yourself. We give them our feedback on how to get through a field challenge. At the same time, we felt for them. We felt really like, “Okay, this is going to be tough because it’s not just a field challenge or cooking for random people. They’re cooking for last year’s winners, so I’m sure there was a little bit of added stress in that.

How did your family and friends feel about the wedding being part of the show?

Jessica: Our cast from season 15 is literally an extension of our family. Ever since we got back from filming the show, we’ve all had a humongous group chat together, and it’s still active daily. So to have the wedding come up, it just like it surged. To have them all there, and to experience our wedding with us, it just keeps on coming back to full-circle moments. It was incredible.

Jesse: It was awesome for our family, too and friends who have never been on TV, and to kind of see a little bit of how the sausage is made, so to speak. They were more excited than most of us because we’ve been there, done that. We’ve been in front of cameras. Jessica: They were all like, “You did this for 2 months?”

Jesse: The day after we didn’t have a true reception or whatever you want to call it, but we had a potluck dinner. We rented a kitchen, and everyone from the cast and some of our friends and family came. Every single cast member made their own little dish, and we even had the honor of having one of our cast members make us a wedding cake.

Did Gordon give you a nice gift?

Jessica: We’re gonna hit him up on Bishopsgate when we’re in London next time around.

Jesse: Yeah, we’re gonna ask him for maybe a seat at his nice table to his tasting menu.

Catch us up on what you’ve been up to professionally since winning the show.

Jessica: It’sbeen a wild ride. It’s been nonstop. We have been balancing working our day jobs with trying to develop our brand and our business. We’re invested in so many things that we want to happen. One of which is a provision shop that we want to open up, an artisanal provision shop that will feature a couple of specialty items that we’ve been working on. We started a pizza company called 10 Inches Pizza. It’s a 10-inch pan style pizza that’s actually native to where we’re from on the South Shore of Massachusetts. So we have an artisanal twist on that and it’s something, a product that we would like to eventually freeze and cryovac and offer at local grocers so everybody can enjoy it at home as well. So that’s something we carry at our provision shop. We also recently started a cooking business.

Jesse: Our brand is J Squared Eatz, which was our nickname on the show. So we are building this  parent company. We also have what’s called The Sandwich Cookie Co. which is kind of our play on Little Debbie’s Oatmeal Cream Pie, but with different fun flavors. Instead of raisins that typically go in an oatmeal cookie, we do a little oat in New England with Maine blueberries. And then the filling is a [marshmallow] fluff, which is an ode to Somerville because [marshmallow] fluff was invented in Somerville. So, keeping with the New England theme…We have all things that we are kind of moving towards. But in the meantime, we’ve been doing private dinners, pop-ups, cooking classes to bring people in and show them the staples of how to make really good home-cooked meals. Our motto is home-cooked meals with restaurant feels. It means something that you can have and make at your home as an everyday chef, but we’re going to teach you those little nuances. Things of that nature.

Jessica: It’s approachable food, but elevated, and we’re going to show you how easy it is to elevate it.

How does it feel being married?

Jessica: We like we’ve been so tight-lipped about it that we haven’t really been able to celebrate it in the way that we might want to. We finally just started talking about planning our honeymoon potentially in October because we haven’t gotten around to that. We haven’t had a wink’s rest since the whole MasterChef competition started, and we’re happy to do it because we’re trying to hit the ground running. It would be nice to have that honeymoon and take a little breather and celebrate ourselves and all the achievements that MasterChef has brought to us.

Jesse: We’ve been wearing our rings and haven’t been necessarily, you know, announcing it to people. People have caught on. We’ll be chopping an onion in a video, and see that ring we were wearing. It was then more of the we went and got eloped. If anyone really asked. we were like, just stay tuned, we have something fun lined up for you.

Wow, so you had to keep this a secret since January?

Jesse: I don’t think we were actually told we had to keep it a secret, but we wanted to. So it was a big surprise for that episode. So I would say, if I slipped up and was like, “Oh my wife.” People would then be like, “Wait, your wife? I thought it was your fiancée.” I’m like, “Oh, yeah. She needed health insurance.”

Jessica: She needed health insurance.

Jesse: Yeah, exactly. But I wouldn’t say we kept it a secret as if someone asked us. We did tell them.But we didn’t necessarily announce it. We were waiting for this special moment to do it.

Would you want to compete again?

Jesse: My answer is 1000% yes.

Jessica: If it were MasterChef related, absolutely.

Jesse: Yeah, Jess says that she thinks she’s done, but I bet you if it was, if it was a duo…

Jessica:  Yeah, my cortisol levels are just finally starting to level out, so I don’t know how quickly I’d jump back into competition cooking, unless it was for MasterChef.

Jesse: Yeah, I thrive on it, I love it. I would do it in a heartbeat, uh, but like Jess said, if MasterChef was ever to do a, let’s say, a winner’s season, one thousand percent we’d be in.”

Now that you are married, where do you stand with having kids?

Jesse: We are always in the talks about that. We always thought that if we don’t have children of our own, we would be totally up for adoption. We’d totally be into that, but right now,  we’re really trying to get the businesses off the ground and working full-time. We have an amazing dog named Winnie, and she takes up a lot of our time as well, so we sort of have a kid.

Jessica: And we definitely want to adopt more of those too, the four-legged kids. Yes.
