After the actress’ Southern California property was searched by authorities on Friday, July 31, as part of an active investigation into a reported kennel operation, Blair, 67, spoke out through an Instagram post later that same day, addressing the situation.
Explaining in her caption that she and the animals at her home were “good in lieu of our surprise visit in 105° heat,” Blair — who rose to fame as the child star of 1973’s The Exorcist — continued, “Turns out we just have some paperwork to do and some diagrams.”
“But as everybody knows, I’m looking to move so I can be more educational and help more animals,” she added.
“I’d rather move forward,” Blair then wrote. “And I always say you know a good old-fashioned letter of contact always works. Be safe, safe lives support animal rescue, cause we’re all fighting to save lives.”
Blair’s property was searched under an inspection warrant as part of a joint operation between the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control and the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning, according to a statement from authorities shared with PEOPLE.
“The goal is to inspect this property for buildings and structures associated with a kennel operation reported to have more than 100 dogs,” officials said in the statement.
The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control added that the kennel facility’s permits expired in 2023, and the organization alleged that multiple attempts by both county agencies to contact the owner, Blair, had gone unanswered.

“The warrant allows us to lawfully access the property and verify compliance with County codes,” the department said, further explaining that its role during the operation was to evaluate “animal care, safety conditions, and overall welfare of the dogs housed on the property.”
“Our priority is the safety and well-being of both the animals on the property and the people who may be working or residing here,” continued the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control. “This inspection will help us determine whether conditions meet required standards.”
According to TMZ, Blair was present during the inspection and was “extremely cooperative.” The outlet reported that no dogs were removed from the property.

Blair doubled down on the situation in a video shared with her July 31 Instagram post.
Standing outside and speaking to her camera directly, Blair said, “Today we got a really big surprise visit, and, as it turns out, there is nothing but some paperwork and some new diagrams and things.”
“I’ve been trying to move for the last two years really, and it’s imperative to my health, and trying to help more animals, but it’s kind of on the news right now, so I wanted to check in, let you know I am fine, the animals are fine, and we just have some paperwork that has to be dealt with — that’s all this was all about,” she continued.
Blair then said, “I don’t know why mail isn’t used more often to notify somebody,” before she asked for donations to the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation, a nonprofit organization she founded that is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused, neglected and abandoned animals.
“We love volunteers and foster homes, and it’s a big crisis we’re dealing with in California, and across the country. So any and all support would mean the world,” said Blair.
