Seth Meyers cited a report that the Trump administration chose to attack Venezuela because of how Nicolás Maduro cuts a rug on Monday's episode of *Late Night*.

"I don't actually think the president of the United States started a war over a foreign leader's dance moves," the host said. "That is absurd."

He then cut to Fox News citing a *New York Times* report published Sunday that said Maduro's "regular public dancing and other displays of nonchalance in recent weeks helped persuade some on the Trump team that the Venezuelan president was mocking them and trying to call what he believed to be a bluff. So the White House decided to follow through on its military threats." The newspaper cited two anonymous sources.

"Oh my god," Meyers said. "We invaded Iraq because of WMDs, and now we invaded Venezuela because of WDMs — wicked dance moves!"

Meyers also joked that, when he's "annoyed by someone's dancing," he simply moves to another subway car.

Earlier in his broadcast, Meyers jokingly pointed out that Maduro actually did appear to be performing like Trump.**

"Dancing at a rally in a red hat? He stole Trump's move," Meyers said. "Although, Maduro did make some changes; for example, he decided to also dance with his lower body. Trump was probably embarrassed that Maduro had better moves than him, especially considering Maduro's moves aren't good. Being worse than Maduro is like being the dancer that finished behind Raygun at the Olympics."

Meyers appeared to get serious further into his "A Closer Look" segment and said "the reality is we may simply never know why the Trump administration decided to wage war on Venezuela."

The show switched over to a *Good Morning America* report that Venezuela "sits on the largest supply of oil reserves in the world," then to a 2023 Trump speech on C-SPAN.

"When I left, Venezuela was ready to collapse," he said. "We would've taken it all. We would've gotten all that oil."

Clips of Trump and his supporters mentioning the oil followed.

"Damn it," Meyers said. "I just wish there were clues."**

*Late Night With Seth Meyers* airs weeknights at 12:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
