King Charles was spotted with letter-writing materials stowed in the back of his car as he arrived for a Sunday morning service at St Mary the Virgin church on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
As the 77-year-old monarch stepped out of his Lotus Eletre, stationery was visible tucked into the pocket behind the driver's seat, evidence that even the journey to worship doubles as working time for the tireless sovereign.
The sighting shows how the King seizes every moment to keep on top of his vast personal correspondence.
According to The Sun, Charles pens as many as 2,400 letters each year, an average of approximately seven per day. His dedication to correspondence is nothing new.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry recalled that he and Prince William would regularly find their father "at his desk amid mountains of bulging post bags" during their childhood.
"More than once, we discovered him, face on the desk, fast asleep," Harry wrote. "We would shake his shoulders and up he would bob, a piece of paper stuck to his forehead."
The habit of working through towering piles of mail has clearly endured throughout the King's adult life.
The royal household received a total of 101,669 letters over the past year, and Charles is known to make a personal effort to respond to as many as he can.

He and Queen Camilla also dispatch birthday cards to the thousands of British citizens who reach their centenary annually.
A royal source described the King as "a very thoughtful and considerate man" who "writes letters extensively to friends and contacts."
The source added: "He quite often writes to families impacted by major tragedies and loss of life of service personnel."
Despite his cancer diagnosis, Charles was crowned the hardest-working member of the Royal Family in 2025, displacing his sister Princess Anne from the top of the rankings.

He carried out 535 official engagements over the course of the year, accounting for 21 per cent of all public duties performed by the entire institution.
That relentless pace shows little sign of easing, though the King and Camilla are due to take a break in Scotland this month.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, meanwhile, will attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, where they plan to watch the athletics.
