Amal Clooney and George Clooney Evacuate Their “Beautiful Home” in France Amid “Terrible” Wildfires

Amal Clooney, George Clooney, and their 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella have been forced to evacuate their home in France.

Wildfires are currently raging across the country, as well as around other parts of Europe including Spain, Italy, and Greece.

In a letter written July 29, the couple wrote that they “have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”

The Clooney family—Amal Clooney, George Clooney, and their 9-year-old twins Alexander and Ella—have been forced to evacuate their home in southeastern France amid ongoing wildfires in the country.

The family of four have been living on a farm in Brignoles, a small historic town in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Entertainment Weekly reported. In a letter written to Brignoles’ mayor Didier Brémond on July 29, the couple wrote, “At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”

“As we evacuate Brignoles, we want to emphasize two things—first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe, and second, that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole,” the letter continued. “We love Brignoles and our friends who live there.”

The Clooneys are among more than 300,000 people who have evacuated in both France and Spain due to the wildfires. As of Wednesday, the reported that wildfires in southwest France have grown to four times the size of Paris. People reported that Italy and Greece have also been affected.

George told Esquire in a 2025 interview that he and Amal chose to raise their children on a farm in France because “They have a much better life” there.

“But now, for them, it’s like—they’re not on their iPads, you know?” he said. “They have dinner with grownups and have to take their dishes in.”

Had they raised Alexander and Ella in Hollywood, the actor worried about “the culture” there and added, “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.”

“France—they kind of don’t give a shit about fame,” he said. “I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

George told The New York Times in February 2025 that his family’s life in France is “the best chance at a normal life.”

In addition to their home in France, the Clooneys also have an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and a property near George’s family in Kentucky. The Clooneys officially received French citizenship in December 2025, per a naturalization decree published by French newspaper Journal Officiel (and per Us).

The Times reported that the family’s estate in France—called Domaine du Canadel—sits on 425 aces of land and has a 25-acre vineyard, an olive grove, lake, pool, and tennis courts. The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said in a statement late last year that it was “delighted” to welcome George and Amal “into the national community.”
